The nationwide shortage of registered nurses (RNs) is felt in New York City, where facility job vacancy rates can be as high as 18.1% in some hospitals.

The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program is helping answer the call and address the nursing shortage in NYC. With three start dates each year, our accelerated nursing program in NYC is enrolling and graduating more practice-ready nurse candidates to help care for the population locally and across the U.S.

The ABSN program is open to students with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree, allowing them to leverage their degrees and graduate in as few as 16 months. The ABSN compresses the content of a traditional four-year nursing program into an accelerated timeline, while offering the same quality path to earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) in nursing.

In addition to providing a path for those called to become nurses, the program seeks to help ease New York’s increasing nursing demand by removing the wait time nursing school applicants experience while trying to earn a BS in nursing. Here, you’ll work with a dedicated admission counselor who will help you start earning your degree as quickly as possible.

Regardless of your previous major and work experience, the University of Mount Saint Vincent can help you leverage your non-nursing bachelor’s degree into a rewarding career as a nurse.

While you’re planning your career pathway, consider the benefits of choosing a fast-track nursing program in NYC, what to expect from the program, and what your nursing career might look like after you pass the NCLEX-RN exam.

Why Choose an Accelerated Nursing Program in NYC?

A traditional BS in nursing program requires four years of full-time study. If you’re switching careers to nursing after having already earned a bachelor’s in another field of study, however, you don’t necessarily have to return to school for four more years.

Instead, an accelerated BS in nursing program in NYC, such as the ABSN at Mount Saint Vincent, allows you to earn a quality nursing degree in as few as 16 months after completing any necessary prerequisites. It allows you to fast-track your transition to a nursing career.
